Today, the Louisiana State Senate passed a dangerous 5-1 congressional map designed to silence and dilute the political power of Black voters, while intentionally disenfranchising Democratic voters across the state through extreme partisan gerrymandering meant to predetermine election outcomes after thousands of ballots have been cast.
By eliminating a second majority-Black district and packing nearly 60% of Louisiana’s Black population into a single seat, this map is a deliberate attempt to weaken our collective voice, diminish our ability to elect candidates of our choice, and lock in political power for a conservative supermajority at any cost.
Let us be clear: this is a rush to regression. A regression toward unconstitutional maps. A regression toward the worst traditions of Louisiana’s past. A regression toward a democracy where power manipulates the rules to hold onto control.
This Saturday, we must answer this moment with action. Vote. Bring your family. Bring your neighbors. Bring your frustration, your hope, and your determination to the ballot box.
Vote! May 16th is our moment to not be ignored!
