  • Hurricane Ida Relief Giveaway Second Weekend

    Thrive 9 Community Center 3600 Desire Parkway, New Orleans, LA

    The Urban League of Louisiana, along with Thrive New Orleans, Shell, ESSENCE, Convoy of Care, PepsiCo, the National Urban League, the National Urban League Young professionals, the Greater New Orleans Urban League Young Professionals and the Houston Area Urban League will provide a Hurricane Ida Relief Giveaway on Saturday, Sept. 25. Drive-ups and walk-ups are welcome. The giveaway will take place from 11am-3pm. Current COVID precautions will be followed. Items will be given away while supplies last including: non-perishable food items, water, baby formula, diapers, clothing, feminine products, cleaning supplies, and tarps.     The Urban League of Louisiana’s Parent Information Center, in partnership with Baptist Community Ministries, will host a School Supply Giveaway and Coat Giveaway Saturday, October 16 from 10am to 2pm at Champions Square. Attendees can expect an array of resources including school supplies, uniform vouchers, and a chance to win special prizes including a PlayStation 5!     Education advocates, parents, students, educators, Louisiana residents who care about education equity – this conversation is for you! The Louisiana Department of Education is in the process of receiving public comment on new Louisiana Social Studies Standards. This virtual conversation will help you make sense of the new standards, understand why they are important, and help you prepare to offer your own public comment.
