The Urban League of Louisiana is deeply concerned by the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision to stay the temporary restraining order issued by District Court Judge, John deGravelles, which allowed Calvin Duncan to assume his duly elected role as Clerk of the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.

Mr. Duncan was chosen by the people of New Orleans, and we affirm his election. Ongoing efforts to remove him from office undermine the will of voters and erode confidence in our democratic processes.

The Urban League stands ready to support Mr. Duncan as this legal process continues. We also call on all Louisianans to stay engaged!

Now more than ever, civic engagement is critical. We call on all Louisianans to make their voices heard by voting this week during early voting from May 2–9 and on Election Day, May 16.
