For more than 80 years, the Urban League of Louisiana has been dedicated to assisting African Americans and other communities seeking equity to secure economic self-reliance, parity and civil rights. As such, we fully support amending the city charter to give authority to the Human Rights Commission for the benefit of all residents of the City of New Orleans.

Our organization believes that all people should be free to thrive – which requires that all people be free from discrimination. We see this ballot measure as a critical moment for our city to stand behind important shared values and ensure that community members are protected from discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression. This amendment brings us a step closer to providing equity for all people of New Orleans.
