Having served Greater New Orleans since 1938 with a mission to build a Louisiana where Black and other people of the global majority have economic self-reliance, generational wealth, civil rights, and equitable representation, the Urban League expanded to a statewide entity in 2016, becoming the Urban League of Louisiana (ULLA). That expansion began in East Baton Rouge Parish and plans to continue throughout the state.

For 85 years and counting,  the organization is still relevant in its mission of focusing programs to ensure quality education and access to information, employment, entrepreneurial and economic inclusion opportunities, and shared dignity under the law. The Urban League of Louisiana recognizes that sustainable change happens when we support the entire household — not just individuals in isolation. We address the interconnected needs of all family members, simultaneously and strategically. Our programs and advocacy work in tandem, creating a wide-ranging ecosystem of support that fosters generational advancement, from cradle to career and ensures that families are not navigating fragmented services.
