ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The annual Empowerment and Policy Conference is a statewide convening designed to examine systems, influence policy decisions and enact changes that will positively impact the African American and other communities. The Conference is an opportunity to hear from national and local experts, policy makers and community leaders on timely and important topics, connect with fellow residents statewide, and engage in conversations on issues that matter to you!

Marc Morial

President and CEO, National Urban League

Marc Morial is President and CEO of the National Urban League, the nation’s largest historic civil rights and urban advocacy organization. The National Urban League has been at the forefront of many of the most pressing issues facing Black America. Mr. Morial is a leading voice on the national stage in the battle for jobs, education, housing and voting rights equity. Mr. Morial served as the highly successful and popular Mayor of New Orleans as well as the President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. He previously was a Louisiana State Senator, and was a lawyer in New Orleans with an active, high profile practice.

Donald Cravins, Jr.

Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, National Urban League

Don Cravins, Jr. serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the National Urban League where he leads its corporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiative. He also leads the Urban League’s evaluation and development of corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance policies. For over twenty years, Don has been a practicing attorney and a member of the Louisiana Bar Association. In 2004, he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives. In 2006, he was elected to the Louisiana Senate. During his tenure in the Louisiana Senate, Don was heavily involved in post-Hurricane Katrina issues as the Chairman of the Senate Insurance Committee and was an active member of the Juvenile Justice Commission of Louisiana.

Mitch Landrieu

Senior Advisor to the President for Infrastructure Coordination

Mitch Landrieu is Senior Advisor to the President and Infrastructure Implementation Coordinator. Landrieu served as the 61st Mayor of New Orleans (2010–2018). Under Landrieu’s leadership, New Orleans is widely recognized as one of the nation’s great comeback stories. In 2015, Landrieu was named “Public Official of the Year” by Governing, and in 2016 was voted “America’s top turnaround mayor” in a Politico survey of mayors. He also served as President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. In 2018, he launched E Pluribus Unum, an initiative in the South created to fulfill America’s promise of justice and opportunity for all by breaking down the barriers that divide us by race and class.
