Automobile Technician Apprenticeship Program
Launched in 2023, the Urban League of Louisiana’s Office of Workforce Development established its Automobile Technician Apprenticeship Program in partnership with the National Urban League, the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association (LADA), laying a strong foundation for preparing the next generation of skilled automotive technicians. Building on that foundation, the Urban League continues to expand this 20-month pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship program, placing aspiring technicians into real-world training roles at local Louisiana dealerships.
Participants begin with a four-week professional development training led by the Urban League, followed by technical instruction at Delgado Community College or Baton Rouge Community College. During technical training, apprentices are matched with a participating dealership for job shadowing. Upon completion of their classroom instruction, participants are then hired by employer partners for structured on-the-job training and continued support in a full-time apprenticeship role.
Apprentices earn progressively increasing wages throughout the program. Upon successful completion, each apprentice will have earned multiple Automotive Service Technician credentials and achieved Journeyworker status.

Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program
Urban League of Louisiana’s Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program was created to develop the next generation of skilled IT and cybersecurity professionals across Louisiana. As cyber threats continue to grow and organizations increase their reliance on digital infrastructure, the demand for trained cybersecurity talent has never been higher. This program provides a structured and supportive pathway into one of today’s fastest-growing and high-demand industries.
Participants begin with Urban League’s four-week Professional Development training, where they strengthen the foundational workplace competencies necessary for long-term career success. During this phase, apprentices build critical soft skills including communication, teamwork, leadership, professional etiquette, problem-solving, time management, and workplace readiness.
Following the professional development component, apprentices transition into comprehensive technical instruction focused on information technology fundamentals and cybersecurity principles. Technical training prepares participants to earn industry-recognized certifications through the CompTIA Cybersecurity Career Pathway. Coursework includes IT fundamentals, hardware and networking concepts, security principles, threat detection, risk management, and systems support. This classroom instruction is intentionally aligned with real-world employer needs to ensure apprentices are career-ready.
Midways during technical instruction, participants are placed with employer partners for paid, structured on-the-job training. During this phase, apprentices gain hands-on experience in IT departments, managed service providers, and cybersecurity-focused environments, applying their knowledge in live operational settings while continuing to work on their certification attainment.
Upon successful completion, participants earn nationally recognized cybersecurity certifications and achieve Registered Apprenticeship status, positioning them for long-term career advancement in the technology sector.
