Since 1938, the Urban League of Louisiana has promoted economic self-reliance, equity and civil rights for African Americans and others.

In response to the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Ida, the Urban League of Louisiana has designed three ways for our supporters and partners to join us in the recovery efforts.

SUPPORT THE URBAN LEAGUE OF LOUISIANA’S BLACK BUSINESS WORKS FUND

The Urban League of Louisiana supports black-owned businesses every day through programming and advocacy to help close the racial wealth gap and create an environment where black owned businesses can thrive and pass on generational wealth.

In partnership with the Foundation for Louisiana, we have established the Black Business Works Fund to help businesses stand back up in the aftermath of the storm and be stronger on the other side.

The need is great for many Louisiana residents who were impacted by Hurricane Ida. In order to support families as they recover, the Urban League of Louisiana will host a community giveaway to help families rebound after the storm. Events will be open to the public.

SHELTERING ASSISTANCE (FEMA)
In order to receive sheltering assistance, start by applying for assistance. You must have a FEMA registration ID and approval from FEMA to participate. If FEMA has reached out to you about sheltering assistance, you can look up participating hotels.

OPERATION BLUE ROOF
In Louisiana, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has activated its Operation Blue Roof program for parishes approved for individual assistance. Residents can sign up for the program and complete a Right of Entry form at the link above.

SBA DISASTER ASSISTANCE

As a SBA resource partner, the Urban League of Louisiana’s Women’s Business Resource Center is available to assist small businesses impacted by Hurricane Ida with operational and financial recovery needs. Please contact the Center at wbrc@urbanleaguela.org for assistance.

  • Low-interest federal disaster loans are now available to Louisiana businesses and residents as a result of President Biden’s major disaster declaration. The declaration covers Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana parishes as a result of Hurricane Ida that began on Aug. 26, 2021.
  • In consideration of the public health concerns due to the Coronavirus pandemic, on Tuesday, Aug. 31, SBA established a Virtual Business Recovery Center to provide personalized assistance to business owners.  In addition, SBA also opened a Virtual Disaster Loan Outreach Center to help homeowners and renters.
  • Customer Service Representatives are available to business owners and individuals to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help each person complete their electronic loan application.

  • Businesses of all sizes and private nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets. SBA can also lend additional funds to businesses and homeowners to help with the cost of improvements to protect, prevent or minimize the same type of disaster damage from occurring in the future.
  • For small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture and most private nonprofit organizations of any size, SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster. Economic injury assistance is available to businesses regardless of any property damage.
  • Disaster loans up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed real estate. Homeowners and renters are eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property.
  • Interest rates can be as low as 2.855 percent for businesses, 2 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 1.563 percent for homeowners and renters with terms up to 30 years. Loan amounts and terms are set by SBA and are based on each applicant’s financial condition.
  • To be considered for all forms of disaster assistance, survivors must first contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency at www.disasterassistance.gov. Applicants may apply online, receive additional disaster assistance information and download applications at https://disasterloanassistance.sba.gov/. Applicants may also call SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659‑2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov for more information on SBA disaster assistance. Individuals who are deaf or hard‑of‑hearing may call (800) 877-8339. Completed applications should be mailed to U.S. Small Business Administration, Processing and Disbursement Center, 14925 Kingsport Road, Fort Worth, TX  76155.
