Project Ready

The Project Ready Program provides students with a cadre of academic, life skills and career readiness supports to prepare them for high school graduation and post-secondary success. Central to Project Ready is its selective dual enrollment program, which ensures that students are equipped with the skills necessary to compete for in-demand jobs with career ladders that pay not just a living, but a saving wage.

Students have the opportunity to pursue an associate degree, certificates of technical competency in electrical, HVAC, and welding, certification in NCCER CORE, and a certification in Cybersecurity through the ULL pre-apprenticeship program.

Project Ready is available during the school day and after school and serves students in grades 9-12 at L.B. Landry College and Career Preparatory High School in New Orleans and at Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge.

At both sites, students can access college application and eligibility support, career exposure and advising, academic tutoring, ACT prep, gender based mentoring, college tours, “Behind the Business” tours, STEM enrichment, and community service opportunities. These school sites serve as key partners in preparing students for graduation and life beyond high school.

COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS

College and Career Readiness and Awareness are crucial components of a student’s educational journey, preparing them for success beyond high school. By focusing on these areas, we empower students to make informed decisions about their future paths. Our program provides students with the tools and resources they need to explore various career options, understand the educational requirements for their chosen fields, and develop the skills necessary to excel in their chosen professions. Through workshops, college tours, behind-the-business tours, and hands-on experiences, we aim to instill confidence in students as they navigate the transition from high school to college or the workforce. By promoting a culture of lifelong learning and adaptability, we prepare students to thrive in an ever-changing global economy. Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their full potential and become active contributors to their communities.

S.T.E.A.M.

(Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)

We are dedicated to providing exposure to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts/Agriculture, and Mathematics) fields, igniting their curiosity and passion for these disciplines. Through career explorations, hands-on workshops, interactive seminars, and real-world projects, we aim to inspire the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. By collaborating with professionals in STEAM fields, we offer students valuable insights and mentorship opportunities, helping them connect classroom learning to real-world applications. Our goal is to bridge the gap between education and industry, preparing students for future careers in STEAM fields. Join us in empowering students to explore their interests, develop new skills, and pursue exciting opportunities in STEAM. Together, we can cultivate a community of lifelong learners and innovators.

ROBOTICS

During Urban League of Louisiana’s 1st annual UrbanBot Challenge conducted at Scotlandville Magnet High School there were 2 teams that coded their way to the winner’s circle. Among the winners were two (2) Seniors and one (1) Junior from a group of over 40 teams or more. The teams were a mixture of pairs and individuals that began the school year with little to no knowledge of coding. This was an exciting event that engaged every Robotics class leaving them ready for next year’s challenge. Both the staff and students were amazed at how skilled all the students were at coding their sphere for the races considering this was a newfound learning experience for them all.

CYBER SECURITY

Urban League of Louisiana’s cybersecurity class has been curated so that students experiencing success can sit for the CompTIA+ Exam. Lessons are nestled in an online learning management system that is inclusive of virtual labs and case studies. Students will walk away with a comprehensive knowledge from threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities to governance, risk, and compliance. Success in this cybersecurity course means students will be more marketable post diploma and equipped to work in a booming industry.

ART & ACTIVISM

Art and activism intersect powerfully, offering high school students a unique platform to express their voices and advocate for change. Our program empowers students to explore this intersection, using art as a tool for social change and activism. Through workshops, exhibitions, and community projects, students learn how art can amplify important social issues and spark meaningful conversations. They are encouraged to express their perspectives on topics such as social justice, environmental sustainability, and equality, fostering empathy and understanding among their peers. By engaging in art and activism, students develop critical thinking skills, empathy, and a sense of agency, empowering them to become active citizens and leaders in their communities. Join us in supporting and amplifying the voices of our young artists and activists as they work towards a more just and equitable future.
