In 2015, The Urban League of Louisiana (formerly the Urban League of Greater New Orleans) launched its ULEAD (Urban Leaders for Equity and Diversity) Fellows program. ULEAD is the premier training institute for leaders of color in the community on the current educational landscape in New Orleans.
If you are a working professional, have interest in the K-12 education system in New Orleans, and want to make an impact in the community, then the ULEAD fellowship is for you. As a member of the ULEAD cohort, you will be provided with the knowledge, resources, and network to act in support of sustaining quality educational options and policies. This training institute exposes community leaders to the current education landscape of New Orleans and is an excellent opportunity to learn from current education leaders. ULEAD cohort members will also be empowered to engage the education landscape in the following five ways:
Advocacy -speak at community and board meetings, write op-eds
Human Capital -seek a position in the New Orleans education landscape
Governance – join a charter school board or run for political office
Policy -develop and or lobby for implementation of equitable policies
Entrepreneurship – start a school, for profit or non-profit educational program, or even develop some type of technology app that has an education policy focus
