Contractor’s Resource Center: Open & Ready to Help!

The Urban League of Greater New Orleans opened the Contractors Resource Center (CRC) in September of 2014.  The center was created to provide education, training and support for DBE, women-owned, and small firm contracting companies. The intent of the program is to increase capacity in these firms by assisting them through training, education, consulting and other resources to increase accuracy and efficiency in their project bidding capabilities. Our goal is to substantially impact the success rate for DBE contractors to win bid awards. Significant emphasis is toward the school rebuilding projects in New Orleans.  The Center is partially funded by Jacobs/CSRS, project managers for the Recovery School District and Orleans Parish School Board construction projects. The CRC also works in partnership with other large public projects.

The Contractors Resource Center is located at the Urban League’s headquarters at 4640 S. Carrollton Avenue in Suite 250. The CRC houses a computer lab outfitted with widely used construction estimating software, as well as the latest electronic accounting system software. These computerized training tools are complemented by other capacity building and business sustainability training modules to provide comprehensive long-term growth planning for small business contractors. A state-of-the-art plotter is available for large, full-color hard copies of project plans and specifications. The program is membership based; contractors utilizing the Resource Center have access to remote and virtual basic training on the project estimating software as well as all other contractor-specific training workshops, including intermediate and advanced project management, back-office applications, financials preparation, legal, software instruction, etc.

In its inaugural year, the Contractors Resource Center has served more than 700 contractors in contractor-specific workshops, including hands-on electronic estimating classes, personal consultations and other technical  assistance.
