Parents Ready to be Involved…

Feb 2, 2016

The Urban League Parent Information Center (PIC) recognizes the significant roles parents play in shaping the lives of children and the educational landscape. PIC provides opportunities for parents and guardians to expand their knowledge and involvement in the community through their Parents Ready to be Involved to Deliver Excellence (PRIDE) Leadership Academy. The academy promotes leadership, advocacy, civic engagement, and mentoring. It fosters and encourages parent leaders to engage in public education to support the academic success of children. Participants in the academy learn to navigate the public education landscape using education standards and data as it applies to school accountability. Participants learn advocacy methods and skills, which allows them to become an effective powerful voice for change. Participants gain an understanding of education policies and learn effective civic engagement strategies to influence such policies. In addition, participants network with mentors who provide guidance and assistance in retaining resources that will assist them as they create and orchestrate an education related project in schools and communities with the goal of influencing an environment that enhances student achievement and the community.

The Urban League of Greater New Orleans sponsors the PRIDE Leadership Academy.
